Following on from the initial success of the Auckland Fair, a number of Auckland markets sought out my expertise and connections to establish or help boost their existing markets. Due to the high level of organisational skills that I have, the markets that I was responsible for running were their own satellite events within larger events, this was due to the level of comfort and trust that organisers had in me, where they knew they could leave me to get the job done to a high standard. Here are some of the noteworthy events that I have been previously involved in.
I was contracted by Fresh Concept to be involved with the initial launch of Silo Park Markets within the Silo Park event calendar during Summer 2011/12. This is now a highly popular event held at the Wynyard Quarter in the Auckland CBD. With being involved from the very start for the production of the market, I was able to create a high quality market that was publicised widely as a ‘must attend’ Auckland attraction. Over the summer season there was a market every Friday night and the first Saturday of the month. I would personally select each of the Makers involved in the event, designing the market layout, managing stall payment and administration, event photography to capture the day/night, setting up and packing down of the venue and working with the organisers of the broad event with OSH requirements to ensure everything ran smoothly.
Brought onto the team in June 2010 following the first First Thursdays event the previous year, I project managed the Craft Market held inside St Kevins Arcade. It’s now a highly regarded and successful craft market which is a calendar highlight for Auckland artisans to be part of. I worked to curating and select each of the makers to ensure the overall look and feel of the market matched the event, designed the market layout, managed payments and administration, event photography, assisted with marketing and kept the market portion of the First Thursdays website up to date and current.
I was contracted by Cassette/Fresh Concept to supply the markets for the St Jerome Laneway Festival held within Aotea Square. Bringing initiative and creative ideas to the table, as part of the market, I provided through my (previously existing) online store a ‘check in courier’ service for shoppers that bought things on the day, essentially a coat check for their purchases. This means they could keep their shopping safe while they enjoy the festival and have it couriered to them the following day. As part of this event I again curated each of the Makers, organised staff and systems for the ‘check in’ service, designed Maker layout, managing payments and administration.
For this special, design conference, I was approached by Goodfolk (previously +The Church+) to provide a designers market as a side event during the We Can Create event both in 2011 (held at the Aotea Centre) and again in 2012 (held at the Mercury Theatre). With a discerning audience of design and creative professionals, this was a market that catered to a certain kind of buyer. I looked after curating and managing of all Makers, designing the market layout, managing payments and administration and event photography. For this event special ‘market money’ was designed due to a lack of an onsite ‘cash out’ facility.
